George is at it again. Sticking up for the little guy and trying to help out. It seems the folks in Lake Como where George summers are fighting the contruction of a car park and promenade near his villa, and have banded together signing a petition. I hope no one destroys the beauty and tranquility of the place I plan to spend many happy hours being amused by George and writing.

Thank God this rumor isn't true! Pam would never be the right woman for George. George's PR rep issued a swift denial about him dating Pamela Anderson. I'm sure she's a lovely woman, and that she floats well, she's just not the right woman for George.

I found this interview with Matt Damon on the Web site, Ireland On-Line. Once again the subject of George's sexual preference came up. I wonder why it is that if someone isn't married it is assumed they are gay? I'm not married, and no, I am not a lesbian. Though, if I spend another winter single on Cape Cod I may have to explore my options.
Here's the interview:

Very witty Matt. But I still contend that George isn't in a commited relationship because he hasn't met me yet. Once it's seen that he's dating a girly writer all the rumors will stop. And you know, if he is gay, I would still want him to come over and hang out, just so I can look at him.

I am very sorry to report that George's pet pig, Max passed away this past Friday. As someone who loves her pets, I sympathize. This isn't Max, but this pig was sporting a lovely flower and I thought Max would approve.

I'm sorry for your loss, George. If you'd like a new (well, old) pet, I can offer you my ancient dog, who, like Dorian Grey will probably never leave us.

So George is the second man in history to be names People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive a second time. The first? Brad Pitt. Just to see how disparate our lives are, in the course of a week I turned 50, got taken to Boston by some girlfriends, was given a very lovely pair of Lucky jeans by my friend, Pat - thank you again, Pat! During that same time I'm sure George won some award, kissed a starlet and yes, was named Sexiest Man Alive.But hey, did he replace a toilet handle all by himself like I did? It may not make me the sexiest woman alive, but I can flush!

Clothes make the man, but the tuxedo makes a statement: I am the king.
You can have a room full of men who look like Don Knotts, but if they're wearing a tux, they all suddenly look like George Clooney (above). The penguin suit is the grand champion of equalizers.
The first tuxedo jacket, as it's now known, was worn by tobacco manufacturer Pierre Lorillard IV 120 years ago tomorrow in Tuxedo Park, N.Y. (the town's name came from an American Indian word).
After all these years, all we can say is, man, you're looking good.

This was written by one of my editors, and while he's my boss, (well, he THINKS he is :) I have to respectfully disagree. Don Knotts was a very talented man, but even a magic tux can't transform him to Clooney status.

A guy in a tux does look damn fine, but very few men on the planet can match George.

That said, a guy on my porch bearing roses wearing a tux would always be welcome.

Right here George looks like he'd fit right in with where I live in a lovely New England coastal town.

All right, I've had about enough of George and the actresses already. George, there are millions of women out there (and here) who don't make their living in front of a camera. There are those, like me, who make their living from behind a computer, and those who work in kitchens, offices and schools. Why not try to date one of us, George?

You know, I knew I was in for a tough battle in trying to get a date with George. I knew many, many actresses (and other women I'm sure) were lined up and ready to do whatever it takes to get close to him, but now my competition has taken an unexpected turn -take a look at the newest gal who wants to meet George:

In People magazine this week, in an exclusive interview, Abby Cadabby - the newest Muppet resident of Sesame Street, said that she'd love to meet George. "He has a potbellied pig and I've always wanted to adopt one," she says. "I hope he can come visit us at Sesame Street one day."

Yeah, I bet she does. She's trying to get to him through his pig that conniving little fairy! Why didn't I think of that? If I was to do that I suppose I'd need to rethink the pork I just had for dinner...

George, George, George - say it ain't so! And Ellen, you had your shot with a hot actor, (she's divorced from Gabriel Byrne - the handsome Irishman from "The Usual Suspects") and the rich older man - Revlon CEO Ron Perlman. C'mon Ellen, you gotta give a sister a chance here!

Days have gone by but alas, no word from George - yet. I have not given up I have many weeks until my birthday in November for him to come through.

In the meantime I have been getting lots of support and encouragement from many people - including my mom, who cut out a quote of George's from Reader's Digest:

"I know love at first sight can work. It happened to my parents."

So now that I know George believes in love at first sight, all I have to do is get a sighting.

I wonder if it counts if their first sight of you is a picture of your head stuck on Brad Pitt's body? Let's hope he's got a good sense of humor and imagination.

See? Even back in high school we looked completely adorable together! We'll just ignore the fact that since I'm five years older than you, you would have been in seventh grade when I was a senior.

OK, so there was a piece I read recently online about suitable dates for George. In my opinion none of the ones chosen, except the last are right.

Here's the list:

Uma Thurman:

Uma has little kids - for a guy who doesn't want kids that could be a problem. Does George REALLY wanted to be tied down? I don't think so. Bachelors and young children? Not a good mix.

Pam Anderson:
Pam just married Kid Rock - she's not available -but wait six months and she might be.

Heidi Fleiss:
Heidi Fleiss?? "The Oscar Winner and the Madam"? Sounds like a Lifetime movie title to me.

Ann Coulter:
Pahleese! She an arch conservative, and really mean!

Hilary Swank:
She may be a fellow Oscar winner, but I don't see it.

Emmy Rossum???
The "Phantom" star is a child - 19-years-old. I think it's a good bet to stick to over 30.

How are you? I am fine - thanks for asking!

I am writing to you because I have an important birthday coming up in November. Believe it or not, (and I would appreciate it if you would at least feign surprise) I am turning 50. But, since 50 is allegedly the new 30 (something I find hard to believe) I am trying to not be too upset.

I am now suddenly very aware of some things I should have done earlier in my life. I haven't exactly been a slacker, but if I'd written my novel 10 years ago, rather than just finishing it. It (and the many others I would have penned since) might already be on the bookshelves of Barnes and Noble, and I would no longer be writing newspaper stories about what to do with your hair during the summer heat, and interviewing women about their attraction to Tony Soprano.

I should have taken some computer classes so I would know what to do when things go awry, rather than my usual coping strategy of spinning around whilst pulling my hair, and spewing incoherent utterings.But, there is one thing I hope I am not too late on, and that is a date with you, the Sexiest Man Alive (a title, which, if you desire, I will constantly refer to you as). A part of me isn't sure how it would feel to date a man so much better looking than me, but it's worth the risk.

I've had some practice dating you as my ex-boyfriend, who I refer to as George Clooney-lite, somewhat resembles you, but alas, no villa. For fear of legal reprisal I won't post pictures. Since I am not allowed within 300 feet of him, ( it's so not a big deal!) I can't take any anyway, so you'll just have to trust me on this.

Because you have no idea who I am I have composed a list of the top five best reasons to date me:
1. I am relatively low maintenance - compared to the type of women I assume you usually date. I drive a Subaru, I take my trash to the dump, (yes, I recycle) and all my body parts (while showing a little wear and tear) are natural and original. My face has never been fattened, (well, except those periods where cookies kept me company during long, winter evenings.) or Botoxed. My lips, while not as full as Angelina Jolie's, have maintained a respectable plumpness. My beauty routines are relatively fast and inexpensive.

2. I can make homemade Toll House cookies without looking at the recipe on the bag. My ability to whip up these tasty morsels in 20 minutes will come in handy the next time you need to pack on 30 pounds for a role.

3. I have three grown children who are either gainfully employed, or attending prestigious colleges where they will earn degrees to ensure said gainful employment. There is no chance of David Foster-like ne’er-do-well stepchildren. Plus, since I have three children in their 20s - no baby cravings.

4. The paparazzi never follows me. Not once have I been photographed going to get coffee or pick up groceries.

5. I am not an actress. See item one.

In the interest of fairness I should tell you some of the not-so-great things about me.

1. I collect Hello Kitty items. It's not an addiction. Well, not one I've sought treatment for- yet.

2. I have a dog who is ugly and older than God, but he's part of the package. He may outlive us all.

3. I think Michael Keaton was the best Batman (you were much better than Val Kilmer) But... I loved Good Night and Good Luck.

4. I live on the opposite coast. But, when you filmed The Perfect Storm, you must have seen how lovely a New England seacoast town can be.

5. I write about pop culture and skewer celebrities sometimes. but never you. Well, only once, and it wasn't really very mean.

So there you have it - the good, the bad and the ugly. If per chance you find yourself on the East coast, and want an opportunity to see what it's like to go on a date in a small town, I want to let you know that I would say yes, (I know how men get anxious about asking women out, and I'm sure you're no different).

Perhaps when Ocean's 13 finishes filming you will be ready for a break, and really, how can Italy compare to New England and sharing chocolate chip cookies with a charming, almost-50-year-old writer?

Why do I want to date George Clooney more than the guys in my home town?

1. He owns a tux. There aren't many tux-necessary events in my life, but you never know and it's nice to be with a man who's prepared.
2. He's handsome, thin or not. Key: if there is potential of growing older and less-than-glamorous with someone.
3. I admire his verbal ability and brains. He's no himbo.
4. I have never seen a photograph of him wearing a tank top.
